HigherDOSE Red Light Hat

HigherDOSE Red Light Hat product photo

Product image: HigherDOSE product page.

The HigherDOSE Red Light Hat looks like a regular baseball cap but has 120 red LEDs at 650 nm inside.

A magnetic battery clips onto the back, so it's cordless, and it beeps when your 10-minute session ends. HigherDOSE suggests daily use for 16 weeks, then 3–4 times a week. The FDA record shows a 510(k) clearance (K242363).

It's at the lower end on price for hair devices, looks like an ordinary cap, and is also sold at Dermstore. It uses fewer diodes than the laser caps, and they're LEDs only. Hair loss has many causes, so see a dermatologist before you buy.

FDA record or source

"FDA-cleared" means we matched this product to a 510(k) record: the FDA cleared it as substantially equivalent to an existing device for its labelled use. FDA clearance is not FDA approval, and a listed specification isn't proof that a device works. How we check FDA status.

Terms on this page

nm
Nanometres, the unit for a light's wavelength (its colour). Red light is roughly 620–700 nm; near-infrared is above 700 nm.
510(k)
The FDA premarket notification route. A cleared 510(k) means the FDA found the device substantially equivalent to one already on the market. It is not FDA approval.
Diodes
The individual light sources in a device: LEDs, which spread light, or laser diodes, which produce a narrower beam.
